Message from Ty:
“I have just recently joined the Halfpipe build up at the Olympic Venue up on Cypress. When I showed up Steve, John, Alex and Ken at Arena Snowparks had gotten the rough shape of the pipe after about 2 weeks straight of moving snow into position. A lot of cat hours were put in as you can see from the photos. We have been using new methods on this project due to a lack of snow, such as Lasers, hay bails, and temporary retaining walls to keep the snow in as well. Each step is critical in keeping enough snow to do the next. We are learning a lot of new things and how much snow it takes exactly to build a 22′ Halfpipe, where we are usually spoiled with a mass amount of snow. We are scheduled to get the Zaugg in as of Jan 29th or 30th to start our first initial cuts on the walls. The Grandstands are almost complete, which are huge! and is the biggest pile of Scafolding I have ever seen. As you have all seen in the news is the lack of snow and how there is not enough for the Olympics, this is not true. As usual the media has made a mockery of this whole situation, there is a lack of snow and they are peeling snow from anywhere they can, but there is enough to keep all venues on schedule. We are hoping for colder temps and no rain, but we do have plans if that does not happen. I will keep you in the loop as we go along in this process and get some photos of the finished product as we get closer to the games…
Ty Weed”
Check out the photo’s that Ty sent along.
Thanks, Ty! Keep up the great work!

Here is a great little video of the PB Rail Jam put together by David Schuurman.

This past saturday we got out of bed bright and early to hit Seymour I have to say this is my first time waking up and rushing to the mountian on a dust over crust morning. But it was not the snow we were going for it was the rail jam put on by the Snow riders foundation and pacific boarder. What a great day it turned out to be there were around 40 riders in all competing; 20 in the above 16 age group (4 were ladies) and 20 groms who if I may add were showing up the elders. We had a few arsonists out representing; Karen burt for the ladies and Kenny Edwards for the men.
Kenny however was not competing, he was the man who organized and orchestrated this fabulous event, sponsors provided a tonne of gear for all who took place including 3 boards and 3 outerwear jackets and 1 season pass. Kenny managed somehow to pull off building a mini ramp next to the event, though at times it seemed a few necks would break (try riding a slippery ramp with your snowboard boots on and see what happens) Geoff Dermer and a few others showed up to put the ramp to good use.
The purpose of the whole event was to fundraise for snowriders who are doing great things out there http://www.surfridervancouver.org/ be sure to check out their website.
Snowrider Project
The Snowrider Project was launched by the Surfrider Foundation in 1997 to bring greater understanding of the hydrological cycle (the foundation for the intimate environmental connection between snow, land and surf) and foster a sense of stewardship towards alpine and valley watersheds.
While the Snowrider Project was initially conceived to give snowboarders and skiers a vehicle for environmental activism, the range of participants and activists has expanded to include kayakers, canoeists, back-country adventurers and others who appreciate the sanctity of a clean, connected system.
“From snow to the oceans and back again…”
Thansk to Kenny and Haley for putting this event together we all had a great time!

Arsonist B-Mikes is making big moves these days… they include Running long distances, swimming across oceans & biking for miles. Why you may ask well we did too, but after speaking with Brian it all became clear. Bri has signed up with the team in training program through the Leukemia & Lymphoma foundation of BC. Brian will be raising over $5,000 for the foundation and than heading over to the big island (Hawaii) in May to complete his Triathalon. Please take a look Brian’s website to find out more about this incredible goal he has set out to reach.

Hometown: Pitt Meadows B.C.
Home Mountain: Mount Seymour / Grouse Mountain
Stance: 15front foot, and -15back foot, with 23inch stance width
Sponsors: Local 604, Fluid Skate/Snowboard Shop, Action, Arena Snowparks, Arson Outerwear, and Burton Snowboards (flow)
What is you current setup? 155cm Burton Hero Limited with Burton EST Infadels
What are you plans for the 09/10 season? This Season I will be concentrating a lot with getting some photos and some film, riding as much pow as I can, and Get some good sled days under my belt too. The biggest thing I got going on this season will be helping build the Olympic Halfpipe with Arena Snowparks up at Cypress for the 2010 games, and doing some coaching for Action up at Mount Seymour throughout the season.
How can you describe your snowboarding style? Not quite sure what It is, but when I am snowboarding I guess I try to relate it a lot to skateboarding when riding rails, and when riding natural terrain I really like to make it flow and look smooth, I look up to riders like Nicolaus Muller, MFM, and Jake Blauvelt.
What is the funniest moment you have had while on a snowboard? I would have to say some of my first days in the Backcountry with my sled in Whistler, Watching our friend Gonzo Tuedela (photographer) who was learning to ride a sled too, the guy was so tall and lanky and I don’t think there is a riser-bar in the world that is big enough for him haha. Some other days we were building a few jumps and everyone was bomb holing the landings and we built a step up and almost everyone hit the wall, good times. The best times are out there with your friends just shreding and sleding, pushing one another, it always goes down smooth.
What is your next step with snowboarding? I like where I am right now, I have enough to keep me busy, I don’t want to be that huge “PRO” snowboarder. I enjoy riding for the sake of riding, and having sponsors that can help me do that is so great, I would love to travel and ride all around the world for sure. One day I would like to own a piece of land in an area near Mt. Baker, or even up north near Revelstoke and have a couple sleds, my girl (Tia) and my dog and just chill, live a mellow life and ride deep pow all winter.
Tell us about action sports academy and how can kids sign up? Action is a great program that gets kids from the lower mainland and tri-cities of Vancouver to the mountain to shred. Growing up in Pitt Meadows when I was younger I found it really hard to convince my mom and dad to take me to the mountain to shred every weekend. So what Action does is transport kids to Mount Seymour, get them a seasons pass and professional coaching to help them progress and get them to where they want to be in snowboarding, from the little guy who wants to learn to jib or jump, to the guy who wants to be the next Olympic hopeful. I mean snowboarding is what you make it, It is all about having a good time, and at Action we just give you advice, help you out, and point you in the right direction. I just see to many shreds these days snowboarding for weird and almost the wrong reasons. It’s not about your new steeze you just picked up for the season or your skinny jeans your just tailored into snowboard pants, its about getting out there on whatever gear you can get a hold of and shreding!!! I WANNA SHRED! check it our for rates and info at www.actionsportsacademy.ca
Any one you would like to thank? I would like to thank my Mom and my Dad, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your support, Jon at Local 604 stoked to be a part of something so sick and local, Aaron and Tyler at Fluid Skate/Snow you have helped me out tons guys, Steve Petrie and Arena Snowparks for letting me help build snowparks and ride them haha, Rob at Action, lets get some kids on the shred! and Mara Scanlon at Arson Outerwear I am stoked to be a part of the team and help support the only truly Canadian snowboard outerwear company out there, Paul Lucacs for believing in me an getting me on Atomic as my first sponsor 5 years back, and Jeff Martino at Faceshots for getting me on a sick Burton set-up to shred, and all my friends, the GLC you know who you guys are!
Here are some sweet pics from Ryan’s (Arson Family) recent birthday trip to Whistler.
